“G’day” to all students who are coming to Australia to study!

 Firstly, I would like to say “welcome” to you all. I know you will find Australia a friendly and very beautiful place to live during your study years. Perhaps you are unsure of what type of accommodation you would like to live in so below I will outlay some of the benefits of Home Stay for you.

Australian host families are very welcoming to foreign students. It is not always easy to fit into new surroundings, especially as you may be homesick and miss your own families when you first arrive in your new country. This is a time when you might be happier living with another family, even if only for a short time.  Your host family will make sure that you are looked after and will do all they can to make your stay a happy one. There are so many things for you to do in our cities.

Home Stay has many benefits for students. In nearly all circumstances you will have;
·         Your own furnished bedroom
·         Two  meals provided each day
·         The use of  laundry facilities (sometimes Host mothers will do your laundry if you wish)
·         Privacy
·         Unlimited use of internet (there is normally an extra charge for this service)
·         Access to a telephone (a phone card will be needed)
·         Lots of opportunity to practice English and learn Australian ways and customs.

You may wish to share a room with a friend. This can be arranged with a Home Stay host as long as your college or university allows it. Some institutions do not allow two students from the same country to share the same home stay. This is because they want you to practice English rather than speak your own language. Shared rooms come at a lower cost.

Give it a try

If you are thinking of Home Stay, why not give it a try for four or six weeks? Often, students move to several different Home Stays and this is a good way of learning how Australian families live and what they do for entertainment , sports activities and also learn about the wide variety food that is cooked and eaten in Australian homes. There are already many hundreds of overseas students who have made Australia their home while they complete their studies. Most of these students are very happy and often don’t want to return home when their studies are completed. Life in Australia is very good.
Please remember that Australia is a wonderful country full of interesting places to visit while you are living here. Our people are easy going, friendly and welcoming. There is so much information available on the Kangaruni website so don’t forget to take your time and browse through it all.

If you would like to know more about accommodation in Australia, please post a question beneath  in the comment section and I will do my best to answer it.
Good luck in making your decision. I know you will enjoy our lovely country.

All the best from

Aunty Runi
