Study cost Down Under
1. Higher Education:
Australia’s thirty-nine universities, as well as a range of privately funded institutions (such as theological colleges) are offering higher education courses. The awards universities offer are: Undergraduate, Bachelor Degrees, Bachelor Degrees (with Honours), Undergraduate Diplomas, Associate Diplomas and for Postgraduate – Doctoral Degrees, Masters Degrees, Graduate Diploma and Graduate Certificates. Average tuition costs:
- Bachelor Degree: A$10 000–A$13 500 a year. For example, arts, accounting, business and management, and law courses.
- Laboratory-based Bachelor Degree: A$11 000–A$16 500 a year. For example, science and engineering courses
- Graduate Certificate/Diploma: A$9000–A$16 000 a year
- Master and Doctoral Degrees: A$11 000–A$ 18.500 a year
- Post Graduate: A$30,000-A$100,000
2. Vocational Education and Training (VET):
Thousands of courses are offered through the VET education sector in Australia. Qualifications gained lead to a variety of professions ranging from hairdressing to Tourism. The Technical and Further Education (TAFE) sector is part of VET and the largest education and training sector in Australia. TAFE institutes in Australia are government owned and are an excellent choice if you are looking for practical skills: to learn a job. TAFE awards are certificates, advanced certificates, associate diplomas and diplomas. Some TAFE institutes offer credit points for subjects in University. Average tuition costs: A$5500–A$18 000 a year.
3. ELICOS:
English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) is offered by 31 institutions in Australia. No provider is legally allowed to offer courses to international students unless they are CRICOS registered. Further information on: http://cricos.dest.gov.au. Average tuition costs: varies according to length of course: $3,500-$13,500
For a school to be accredited to accept international students it must provide, or have access to, specialist English language programs. Average tuition costs: A$9000–A$22 000 a year.
5. Foundation courses: a pathway into university:
Foundation courses, or bridging courses, help international students who may not initially meet entry requirements gain entry to courses at Australian universities and colleges. They also help students adapt to the Australian academic environment and life in Australia. Some foundation courses promise a place at university after successful completion of the course. Average tuition costs: A$9000–A$22 000 a year.
