In most parts of Australia, shops close at 5pm everyday except Friday where they open to around 9pm. It can get pretty boring with nothing to see after 5pm, but most restaurants and cinemas in the city area are open until quite late.

An international student from India is responsible for a deadly crash in Melbourne, killing an Australian Student from the Gold Coast. Puneet Puneet, 19, drank four whiskeys at a work party before driving off in his Holden. Police indicated that the car was travelling at more than 150km/h in a 60km/h zone and that the driver had a blood-alcohol level of .165 - more than three times the legal limit. Learner drivers must have no alcohol in their blood.

Fast food recruiting from overseas

AUSTRALIA'S skills crisis has reached alarming new levels with fast-food giants McDonald's and KFC forced to use the controversial 457 skilled visa program to recruit staff overseas.

With the lowest unemployment rate in decades, the restaurants were not the only businesses finding it hard to get labour. The 457 temporary skilled visa program is the subject of a review by the Rudd Government, following allegations some employers had mistreated workers.
