Has Australia lost its identity or gained a new understanding of tolerance?

With all the migration happening in Australia, has Australia lost its identity? Stuff like "Football, Meat Pies, Kangaroos and Holden cars".....as the Holden jingo went from the seventies. Or have we created a superior multicultural society that is the envy of the world?  Could Australian society be a model of how the world could be with different races and cultures living side by side?

Take for example my parents place, they live on a corner house in Vermont South.  On one side the neighbour is Italian, on the other side, the neighbour is Taiwanese.  Across the road we also have Indians, Greeks, Chinese and of course Australians.  In the same street we also have English, Scottish and Iraqis living there as well. Most have been living there for over 15 years, some 30 years, all living in peace and harmony. The whole suburb has a vibrant community of Indians and Chinese. Is this perhaps a sign of how people can live together, a sign of the future, through a tolerant society?
