Ben Doran has made it to the ripe old age of 31 without any of his vices causing identifiable terminal illness. He is currently completing a Masters of Education by Research at Monash University and working as an English teacher at the Monash University English Language Centre, a job that he finds extremely enjoyable. Where else, he wonders, would he have the opportunity to exchange ideas with Libyan plastic surgeons, metal fans from Vietnam and Persian flautists, and get paid for it? Ben finds the challenges posed by the planning and execution of an interesting and enjoyable class to a room full of eager students from across the globe both interesting and challenging.

Apart from work Ben is a keen amateur in a variety of fields. He has played in an assortment of punk bands with stupid names like Knaw, The Fancy Boys and The Judy Garland Experience and whilst none of these acts have enjoyed much popularity, all provided him with an opportunity to meet lots of people, travel all over Australia and other parts of the world, all the while making lots of noise and drinking heaps of beer.

Ben is also a writer and it is in this capacity that he is happy to become a part of the Kangaruni team. He has dabbled in fiction and poetry over the years, mostly during his early to mid-twenties, explaining the relatively poor quality of the end product and is currently maintaining his own blog, entitled Soy Sauce Stories, a repository of stories from Chinese students regarding their experiences of life in Melbourne.
