A face scan may be considered by Victorian colleges to check the identity of foreign students. The measure is meant to prevent the abuse of the 80% attendancy rule. In some cases, education visas granted by the Federal Government are not used by `students` to attend a course, but merely for  seeking permanent residency in Australia. Those students never rock up in class.

The issue is:

Would this be a smart way to prevent people from abusing the system or is it a form of discrimination against foreign students as local students would not need to be screened? Are privacy issues more important than a proper working visa system or is discrimination at stake? Please join the discussion, let us know what you are thinking, leave a comment!

Photo: Some Lenovo laptops use face screening software to identify the user as the owner of the laptop. it scans your face and retains the image. This same image is used as the reference point for the security program which scans your face whenever you start the laptop. If the image is matched the laptop will login and allow you to work without the need for entering a password

This is a form of discrimination as Australian students would not have to go through this. I believe teachers should be more responsible for checking attendancy rates and knowing their students. To just let a form go around the class for attendancy check is not sufficient.  A suggestion would be to reward students who attend in class and present ID to the teacher with higher points for the PR.
