Nature at your doorstep
Urbanisation in Western countries often made nature irrelevant. Kids in Europe or America can grow up without seeing any wild animal. Not in Australia.
Kangaroos, Snakes, Kookaburras, Koalas, Cockatoos, Possums, a whole range of animals have made the city their home. Most animals are not particularly dangerous but the fact that they are known to live in city backyards is pretty amazing and you may be surprised sitting at the yard of your school and hearing a loud laughing sound from the Kookaburra or the shrieking of the Cockatoos. Luckey students may even play golf among the wallabies, like at Anglesea (Victoria).
Burglars
In the middle of the night, you may hear big bounces on the rooftop and you wonder what it is. Could it be a burglar who is trying to get in? Luckily, most of the time you don’t have to worry as theyt will most likely be possums playing during the night.
