- Bondi Beach, Sydney: Classic City beach with clear water and great views. The cliff-walk from Bronte Beach to Bondi via Tamarama Beach is fantastic (can take a bus back). You will find all types of people at Bondi, from backpackers to movie stars and from children to pensioners showing an all year round tan. There are many cafes, restaurants and bars, great for a summer evening. More info at: http://www.visitnsw.com/area/Bondi.aspx
- St Kilda, Melbourne: Mix of backpackers, artists, locals, great bars and relaxed bay-beach make this suburb a must see for young tourists. Known in the eighties as the `druggie and prostitutes` area of Melbourne, rising house prices have made it a trendy and fashionable suburb. Luna Park is an old seaside amusement park with working wooden roller coaster and many other rides. On Sunday morning, St Kilda hosts an art and craft market along the Esplanade. http://www.visitmelbourne.com/
- Gold Coast: Fun-sun-surf and entertainment park lovers will enjoy the Gold Coast in Southern Queensland. Go surfing or sunbathing at the beautiful Surfers Paradise Beach or have a ride at Dreamworld or White Water World. Movie lovers will have a great time at Warner Brothers Movie World, while at Seaworld you can view marine animals up-close-and personal. A great place to relax after exams. More info at: http://www.queenslandholidays.com.au/index.cfm

- Great Ocean Road, Victoria: One of the most spectacular coastal drives in the world, with the famous `Twelve Apostles` (huge sandstone rocks in the Ocean) as absolute highlight. Stop on the way at the Otways national park to admire a fairy tale landscape as large tree-ferns grow wild at Maits Rest and Melba Gully. You are sure to see koala’s at the Southern most point of the park. See also: http://www.visitmelbourne.com/
- East coast: from Sydney till Great Barrier Reef in North Queensland: Almost every student/backpacker in Australia follows the route from Sydney up to Cairns or vice versa. It is easy and cheap by bus and not only will you be able to see great beaches, tropical islands, whales, dolpins and large national parks, but also many relaxed places where you can meet up with people from around the globe.
- Ayers Rock or Uluru: If aliens would visit our world and report back a logo of `the Earth`, they would have to choose from a short list of contenders: Maybe the Egyptian Pyramids, the Eiffel tower, the great Chinese wall, the Grand Canyon, but certainly Ayers rock. Uluru (Aboriginal name for the rock) is Australia's most recognisable natural icon. The famous sandstone monolith stands 348 metres high and is most impressive at sunrise or sunset. So get up early and wait for the sun light to shine on the top: breathtaking! It is almost 10km around the rock so runners should take their running shoes and go for a jog, one of the best runs you will ever do. More info at: http://en.travelnt.com/explore/uluru-kata-tjuta.aspx.
- Kakadu National park: Crocodile Dundee was filmed here and with reason, because the natural beauty of Kakadu resembles a movie set. Highest crocodile density in the world but the millions of birds are just as impressive, while jumping of the waterfalls can be great fun as well. Just make sure that the pool is high up in the hills, so crocodiles cannot reach the waters! Worth a visit are also the incredible Aboriginal rock paintings and the beautiful view at Ubirr in the far East of the park. More info: http://www.environment.gov.au/parks/kakadu/
- Swim with whale sharks or Dolphins in Western Australia: This sea-animals paradise in the turquoise coastal waters of Western Australia is simply irresistible. You can get up close to Whalesharks, the world's biggest fish, at Ningaloo Marine Park or dance with the dolphins as they come right to the shore daily at Shark Bay, a world heritage listed nature wonderland. More info at: this link.
- Kangaroo Island in South Australia: Third largest island in Australia and seven times larger than Singapore, Kangaroo Island is bursting with wildlife. Kangaroos, sea lions and koalas make this a great place for watching native animals and relax. More info at: http://www.tourkangarooisland.com.au/default.aspx
- Outback Australia like Oodnadatta track: The Oodnadatta Track (South Australia) offers one of the best outback drives in the country. You will come across natural wonders like hot springs and pass rich cultural heritage as the old railway line and deserted stations providing the impression of a sixties Western Movie. The track was discovered by the great 19th century explorer John Stuart, who was the first man to cross the continent South-North. Following an old Aboriginal trading road, the Oodnadatta Track bypasses beautiful Lake Eyre, the lowest point in Australia and usually all dried up and looking snowy white. But don’t be deceived as the `snow` is salt. Every now and then floods from Queensland reach lake Eyre, causing a spectacular explosion of bird life.
